Can you see the Cross from where you are?

Can you see the Cross from where you are?

Shortly after I was diagnosed with Cancer, I made a trip to Redwood City, California with our oldest to  check out his soon to be new home town.  We were so fortunate that my brother-in-law had lived in Redwood City for a long time and still had several good friends that lived there and attend Church in Redwood City.  We were able to connect with them and stay at Fred and Dianne’s while we were getting the lay of the land.

At the time we knew I was sick, but still hadn’t settled on a plan and weren’t even sure how sick I was.  We were pretty shook up, not really sure what life had in store for us, and not sure it was a wise idea for Austin to pack up and head halfway around the country to be a stranger in a strange land. God knew our uneasiness and he guided us every step of the way.  It was very important to Yvette and I that Austin found a place where he could connect with a family to help support him during the move and start over time.  Let’s face it your kid moving to San Francisco is a little bit of a scary thought, and I was not feeling it when we left Dallas to head west.

My fears were calmed immediately after we got there.  Fred and Dianne where just what Yvette and I had been praying for.  We were welcomed with open arms and open hearts.  Fred gave us a whole day of his time, and showed us  everything Redwood City had to offer. Towards the end of our day Fred said he wanted to take us to a special place.  We wound our way up one of the mountains just to the west of town and as we got near the crest of the mountain there stood this huge white stone cross. I can’t describe the peace that washed over me, I knew God had this, this wasn’t a random thing, there was a plan and he was guiding us.  Fred talked about how this was his anchor point, he would come up here every time he had something heavy on his heart.  I knew then that Austin was going to be more than just fine, I knew God wanted him and need him there to fulfill some purpose and this was his way of saying it was alright.  One other thing that Fred had pointed out during our day together was all the places in town you could see that cross, It didn’t mean much as we had been driving around town, but now as we were standing there on the side of the mountain it all made sense.  If you look you can always see the cross, all you have to do is slow down long enough and shift your focus.

Austin had been in Redwood City about 4 or 5 months when one day he dropped a random
text that said....

“Was looking out my window at work and realized I can see the cross on the hill! “

Our Lord is great and his plans are awesome!!!!!!

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:1-2‬ ‭NIV‬‬
